Local SEO in Pakistan: Why Multan Is Easier Than Lahore, and What to Do About Both

Most advice about local SEO is written for markets where every city is equally contested. Pakistan is not one of those markets. The gap between what it takes to rank in Lahore and what it takes in Bahawalpur is large enough that treating them the same way wastes money in one direction or the other.

Read your market before you budget

Before committing to anything, search your own main term with your city attached and look honestly at what comes back. Three questions answer most of it.

Are the top results real local businesses, or national directories and aggregators? Do the businesses ranking have complete, actively managed profiles with recent reviews, or neglected listings with a phone number and nothing else? And is anyone publishing content that genuinely answers a customer question, or is page one all thin service pages?

In Lahore and Karachi you will usually find serious competitors doing this properly. In Multan, Peshawar and Quetta you will frequently find neglected listings and no content at all — which is an opportunity with a closing window.

The Google Business Profile does most of the work

For local intent, the map pack sits above the organic results and takes a large share of the clicks. A complete profile is the highest-return hour you will spend.

Complete means genuinely complete: exact category, real opening hours including holidays, service areas, a description written for customers rather than for keywords, and photographs that are yours rather than stock. Businesses that add photos regularly tend to hold position better than those that set it up once.

Reviews matter more than most owners expect, and the reply matters nearly as much as the review. A thoughtful public response to a complaint reads better to the next customer than a wall of uncontested five stars.

Consistency across citations

Your name, address and phone number should be byte-identical everywhere they appear — your site, your profile, directories, your social pages. “Suite 4” in one place and “Ste. 4” in another is exactly the sort of ambiguity that dilutes a local signal.

This is dull work with no visible output, which is why it is so often skipped, and why doing it puts you ahead of competitors who did not.

Write for how Pakistanis actually search

Keyword tools built on English-language data will not show you the queries that matter here. Real searches mix English and Urdu, drop grammar, and carry neighbourhood-level intent — people look for a supplier near Gulberg or Clifton or Saddar, not merely in the city.

Build pages for the areas you genuinely serve, and write them about those areas. Which brings us to the trap.

The doorway page trap

The obvious move is to generate a page per city with the name swapped in. It is also the fastest way to get a manual action. Google’s spam policies name doorway pages explicitly: near-identical pages made to catch location queries and funnel everyone to the same place.

A location page earns its existence by being genuinely about that location — the industries there, the districts you cover, what is different about serving that market. If you cannot write two honest paragraphs about a city, do not make a page for it. One good city page beats twelve templated ones, and carries none of the risk.

What a realistic timeline looks like

Technical fixes can move things within weeks. Profile and citation work often shows in the map pack within a month or two. Competitive organic terms take three to six months of consistent work, and anyone promising a first position in thirty days is either misunderstanding the problem or misrepresenting it.

If you want a straight assessment of how contested your particular market is before you spend anything, that is what our SEO work starts with. Get in touch and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it.
