YouTube Monetisation in Pakistan: Requirements, Payouts and What Actually Works

The short answer is yes: YouTube's Partner Program is open to creators in Pakistan, channels here are paid every month, and the money arrives in a local bank account. The longer answer is that most people asking the question are about to make one of two mistakes — assuming it is easier than it is, or assuming it pays more than it does. This is what you actually need to know before you commit a year of evenings to it.

What you need to qualify

To earn from ads, a channel has to be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program. The standard threshold has been stable for some time: 1,000 subscribers, plus either 4,000 hours of public watch time in the previous twelve months or 10 million public Shorts views in the previous ninety days. Both halves are required — a thousand subscribers with no watch time gets you nothing.

There is also a lower tier that opens fan-funding features — channel memberships, Super Thanks, and the like — at 500 subscribers, three public uploads in ninety days, and 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views. It does not switch on advertising revenue, but it is a useful early signal that a channel is on the right track.

Beyond the numbers, YouTube checks four things: the channel has no active Community Guidelines strikes, two-step verification is turned on, there is a linked AdSense account, and the creator lives somewhere the programme operates. Pakistan qualifies. The thresholds do move occasionally, so treat these as the position at the time of writing and confirm them on YouTube's own help page before planning around them.

How the money actually arrives

Ad revenue is paid through Google AdSense, not by YouTube directly. You set up an AdSense account in your own name, link it to the channel, and AdSense pays out once your balance passes the payment threshold, which is one hundred US dollars. Payments go out monthly, in the second half of the month, by wire transfer to a Pakistani bank account. Most major banks here handle the incoming transfer without drama; the amount lands in rupees at the bank's rate, minus whatever the bank charges for receiving foreign currency.

Two administrative points catch people out. AdSense requires you to submit tax information, and if a meaningful share of your viewers are in the United States, a withholding tax is applied to that portion of the earnings. And the name on the AdSense account, the bank account and your identity document all have to match — mismatches are the most common reason a first payout is held.

Why most Pakistani channels earn less than they expect

This is the part the "how to earn from YouTube" videos leave out. What advertisers pay per thousand views varies enormously by who is watching. An audience in Pakistan, watching Urdu content, attracts far lower ad rates than an audience in North America or Europe watching English content — often by a factor of ten or more. A channel with a million monthly views and a mostly local audience can earn less than a channel with a tenth of the views and a Western one.

That does not make a local-audience channel worthless. It means ad revenue alone is a thin business for it, and the channels that work here usually earn more from what the audience leads to — sponsorships from Pakistani brands, affiliate sales, selling a course or a service, driving customers to a shop — than from the ads themselves. A channel is a marketing asset first and an ad-revenue asset second, and planning it the other way round is how people end up disappointed after eighteen months of consistent effort.

What gets channels rejected or demonetised

Meeting the numbers gets you reviewed; it does not get you approved. The review is looking for original content, and it fails channels built on re-uploaded clips, compilations of other people's material, text-to-speech over stock footage, and anything that reads as mass-produced. Copyright claims on your videos will not necessarily stop approval, but strikes will. And after approval, the same standards apply continuously — a channel can be removed from the programme for the same reasons it could have been refused.

The practical rule: if you did not film it, say it or make it, assume YouTube will treat it as not yours.

What actually works

Pick the audience before the topic. If you want ad revenue to matter, English-language content for an international audience is the only version where the arithmetic works. If your audience is Pakistani, plan the channel around what it can sell, not what it can earn from ads.

Treat the first hundred videos as the cost of entry. Nearly every channel that reaches the threshold does so on the strength of a handful of videos that took off, and nobody can tell in advance which ones those will be. Consistency is not a virtue here; it is the mechanism.

Production quality is a floor, not a ceiling. Clear audio, steady footage and a thumbnail that reads at phone size get you past the first two seconds. After that the content has to earn the watch time on its own — which is why the watch-hour threshold is the hard one, and why our YouTube channel launch service spends most of its time on format and structure rather than cameras.

Do the administration early. Set up AdSense, verify the account, submit the tax form and confirm the bank details before you cross the threshold, not after. Channels lose weeks of earnings to paperwork that could have been done in an afternoon a year earlier.

If you are a business rather than a creator and wondering whether a channel is worth it at all, the honest answer depends on whether your customers watch video before they buy — for most product businesses in Pakistan now, they do. Our multimedia production team can tell you what a channel would realistically involve, and social media marketing covers how it fits alongside everything else. Or ask us directly — the first conversation is free and usually settles it.
